Usain Bolt's a slowcoach

In a study on how fast humans could physically run at their maximum, US researchers from Texas and Wyoming have found evidence to show that humans could achieve top running speeds of up to 40mph (65kph)!!

That leaves uber-sprinter Usain Bolt for dust.

The scientists showed in their study that several variables limit the maximum running speed of humans.

And they believe that we haven't reached that peak speed yet. Far from it.

Based on their research, the biological limits of how fast humans can run could be raised from nearly 28 mph (45kph) , today's top speed, to, what they estimate, to be 35mph (56kph) or even 40 mph sometime in the future.

Some dodgy maths from myself shows the 100m record could theoretically come down to around 5.5 seconds!

Weird Science Factoid: The average American will eat 35,000 cookies in his/her lifetime. Cooookiees!!

Daniel Smith - a long time ago, in a galaxy far away just north of Watford, Daniel fancied himself as a scientist but turned out to be the worst scientist since that bloke who mapped out all those canals on Mars that turned out to be scratches on his telescope's lens. Luckily, he is now not working on the Large Hadron Collider inadvertently creating a black hole that would swallow the world but is safely behind a desk writing this blog, bringing you the fantastical underbelly of nature... weird science.
