Butterflies conquer space!
And I for one welcome our new insect overlords... no, hang on, I've used that joke before.
For the first time, butterflies have emerged from a chrysalis onboard the International Space Station.
A duo painted lady butterflies survived the larvae stage and are now living happily way above the Earth.
The experiment is part of an ISS outreach experiment that lets students follow test subjects as they live life - and, alas, sometimes don't - in orbit.
NASA said the test will be instructive to how the butterflies function living in a near zero-G environment for most of their lives, and whether aspects of their nervous system and physiology will adjust to the adverse conditions.
Weird Science Factoid: Among older men, vanilla is the most erotic smell. Maybe this is why older ladies often smell of lavender!
