When an Australian schoolboy heard that the Soviets had launched Sputnik back in 1957, he decided to do something about it.

Fearing his country were falling behind in the space race, Denis Cox set about designing his own rocket ship.

He drew his own craft and included details such as Rolls Royce jet engines, antenna, space for a pilot and navigator, and guided missiles.

It wasn't complete, however, so he told the top scientists at the Woomera Rocket Range to 'put in the other details!'

Poor Denis never got an answer... until now!

Daniel Smith - a long time ago, in a galaxy far away just north of Watford, Daniel fancied himself as a scientist but turned out to be the worst scientist since that bloke who mapped out all those canals on Mars that turned out to be scratches on his telescope's lens. Luckily, he is now not working on the Large Hadron Collider inadvertently creating a black hole that would swallow the world but is safely behind a desk writing this blog, bringing you the fantastical underbelly of nature... weird science.
