DIY on a planetary scale

As long as we don't wipe ourselves out, or nature chooses us for extinction, there will come a time when the human race starts spreading out into the solar system.

Sure we can build bases on the moon and maybe a nice holiday resort on Mars - but what if we could Earth-ify them?

It's called terraforming. Changing another planet or moon into a nicer place to live for us. Creating a home from home.

Above is what Mars could look if we had the technology, time and cash to 'do the place up'.

And here's how Venus would look if we decided to mop up all the sulphuric acid.

But hang on, isn't there a nearer body we could revamp? One that we know is in the right spot for life.

So let's give the moon a little love!

Finally, sit back and enjoy the process.

Daniel Smith - a long time ago, in a galaxy far away just north of Watford, Daniel fancied himself as a scientist but turned out to be the worst scientist since that bloke who mapped out all those canals on Mars that turned out to be scratches on his telescope's lens. Luckily, he is now not working on the Large Hadron Collider inadvertently creating a black hole that would swallow the world but is safely behind a desk writing this blog, bringing you the fantastical underbelly of nature... weird science.
