Supernova remnant Cassiopeia using three sets of data from three different orbiting telescopes - Huble, Chandra and Spitzer.

It's 10,000 light-years away and was once a massive star that went kaboom just 325 years ago (our time).

Uranus might be a bit boring, but its moon Miranda certainly isn't.

This shot of a moon that, unlike Humpty Dumpty, could be put back together shows its radically different surfaces.

All these photos and much, much more can be found at the Nasa photo archives. If you come across anything better, please let me know.

Daniel Smith

Daniel Smith - a long time ago, in a galaxy far away just north of Watford, Daniel fancied himself as a scientist but turned out to be the worst scientist since that bloke who mapped out all those canals on Mars that turned out to be scratches on his telescope's lens. Luckily, he is now not working on the Large Hadron Collider inadvertently creating a black hole that would swallow the world but is safely behind a desk writing this blog, bringing you the fantastical underbelly of nature... weird science.
