Weird Science Cool Pic of the Week

Baby porcupines are fluffy.

Which makes a lot of sense if you're the mother. I mean it would really sting if they came out already spiked and ready for action.

This little fella is Benito the prehensile-tail porcupine and he was born in a zoo in Galveston, Texas.

I spotted Benito - which means 'lucky' - on the website zooborns.

You should definitely check it out, though beware, some of the photos are impossibly cute.

Take this little chap, for instance, a newborn clouded leopard.

Or this little gibbon...

All together now, awwwwww...

Weird Science Factoid: The magnetic North Pole shifts by about seven metres a day. That's why I failed my orienteering exam.

Daniel Smith - a long time ago, in a galaxy far away just north of Watford, Daniel fancied himself as a scientist but turned out to be the worst scientist since that bloke who mapped out all those canals on Mars that turned out to be scratches on his telescope's lens. Luckily, he is now not working on the Large Hadron Collider inadvertently creating a black hole that would swallow the world but is safely behind a desk writing this blog, bringing you the fantastical underbelly of nature... weird science.
