Time to put an end to Emmerdale

When I was growing up Emmerdale farm was all about farming, countryside, sheep-shearing and not much else.

It was based around the Sugdens and matriach Annie Sugden ruled with an iron-fist.

It was harmless telly, very twee, very mundane but still quite popular.

When ratings dwindled in the early 90's they decided to sex it up, out went the acne faced kids and very soon impossibly attractive teens were romping in the hay.

Storylines became ridiculous, plane crashes, explosions, Super Bitch Kim Tate becoming the epitomy of evil etc.

It got silly - but I would take all of that now over the mundane, non-descript turgid tosh that we are lumbered with at 7pm every night.

Terrestrial TV is utter codswallop at 7pm - this is supposedly primetime entertainment.

Emmerdale is totally unwatchable yet it goes on in the background every day in a 'just stick Emmerdale on' kind of way.

Every night - and I could not tell you one thing that happens in it.

I never thought I would say this but what we need is a new soap, stick a new well-thought out entertaining soap on at 7pm on ITV and do away with the lumbering pile of dross that is Emmerdale.

I would have said bring back Krypton Factor - but somebody already did that and destroyed it.

No the Dales have had their day...
