Apologies for not bringing you this title in the Christmas round-up, but there have been so many games lately we have literally been drowning in a sea of Japanese RPG's and Wii party games!

When it comes to family party games, the Scene It! franchise is just the job for when you have friends over or fancy some good family fun.

On the eve of CES 2010, Steve Ballmer and Robbie Bach announced in Microsoft's keynote address that 2009 was a great year for Xbox and 2010 will be the biggest year ever in Xbox history.

Only last week I was compiling the games of 2009 list and now this week I am looking ahead to what 2010 holds for gamers.

Technology in gaming has progressed immensely in the last 12 months. The 360 has gone from strength to strength, and the PS3 is now pushing it to the limits.

Thinking of investing in a Nintendo Wii this Christmas? It might seem like the perfect gift, but the video game console could leave you with more than just a £199 dent in your finances.

Experts warn that inflammation of the wrist, knees and shoulders - as well as torn ligaments - can be the result of hours spent playing Wii games. They've coined 'Wii-knee' and 'Wii-itis' (pronounced 'Wee-eye-tis') to describe the phenomenon.

Planet 51 (wii)

Most film to game adaptations are firmly in the category marked 'If you have a bargepole don't touch this'.

Wheelspin (Wii)

When legendary gaming figure Archer McLean and Fallout 3 producer Bethesda have their names attached to a game you quite rightly get excited.
In this case the excitement was fairly short-lived.

Borderlands (360)

2K games have come up trumps with what they are billing as the first ever 'Role Play Shooter' - a true hybrid between an RPG and FPS.

I'm not so sure that is the case. Fallout 3 for me was probably a lot closer to being a true pioneer in that sense.

New Super Mario Bros (Wii)

Quite how Nintendo have managed to create a masterpiece of a game that is so much like it was in 1985 and yet so radically different is simply beyond me.

This game sent me bouncing back to the late 80's with a spectacular 2D gaming experience that maintains the very heart of the originals all those years ago.

So much has been incorporated from the early games like the same power-ups and environments and all of those familiar characters we all love.

Disney announce Epic Mickey

By Steve Wollaston on Nov 9, 09 12:55 PM

DISNEY Interactive Studios have announced the development of Disney Epic Mickey, an adventure-platforming game with role-playing elements for the Wii.

The game stars Mickey Mouse who has been re-imagined for videogames by luminary game designer Warren Spector and his Junction Point game development studio.

FORZA Motorsport 3 lures you in gently. Unlike many games where you go to an option screen to start, this slick racer caresses you into prolonged action.

"Hello and welcome. Before we start let's go for a spin in an Audi TT," a silky voice tells you as if you've wandered into a high-class car showroom.

Before you can ask "Where's my start menu" you're plonked in a rapid motor and screeching round rolling hills in a two-lap race. The fun tutorial means you've soon done a few three-lap races, earned a couple of new cars and even jazzed them up a bit.

Its format is a well road-tested one of starting you off in a 17-year-old's first-car-that-his-dad-buys-him, and allows you to gain credits which lets you upgrade, or even buy, a new car.

After a few competitive outings you are given cars by manufacturers, which probably has the desired effect for the game's maker of keeping you playing longer than you planned.

But it also makes you feel a bit like a cheat. After only one season and three hours of play you have four cars including a snazzy Alfa Romeo and a speedy blue Williams Clio. I used to play Gran Turismo for hours before I could upgrade to a Honda saloon.

The graphics are spot-on and there's plenty to go at with a relentless set of races each season. The various difficulty settings allow permanently-hold-accelerate-types to progress and the wannabe Stigs to plunge through the gears late to turn in on a tighter line than the race leader.

Overall a gentle Volvo S40 compared to Gran Turismo's growling Aston Martin DB9.

In fact he is probably far too old for it now which is why you will see a lot of reviews been done by kids... He was recently nominated for Regional Games Journalist Of The Year at the Games Media Awards which he believes was a fluke. His major love is sports games and rates Sensible World of Soccer circa 90's as the greatest game ever made - closely followed by Championship Manager 2.
