Review: Glee Karaoke Revolution

By Steve Wollaston on Jan 5, 11 08:26 PM

You would have to have been living under a behemoth sized rock not to have noticed the Glee-mania that took place last year.

My teenage girls were obsessed, my other half a convert too, hell even some of the guys at work were hooked.

It was your classic runaway success and it shows no sign of letting up, needless to say a video game was an obvious step.

And it's a video game that took over our house on Christmas Day.

It's not the traditional way to pass time whilst the Turkey is roasting but it certainly livened up our house.

Mingling clips from the hit TV show with players vocal abilities works really well - more importantly though the mechanics of the game work really well.

The game rates your vocal ability as you tackle the song and is very accurate in judging your tone and precision.

You can play solo mode or duets - the most fun we had was duets.

Yes I say we. Of course it was aimed squarely at my daughters but being a sad old man who was sipping on wine at the time I couldn't help but join in.

I took on the vocals with my eldest daughter Emily on Leaving On A Jet Plane and Gold Digger. It's fair to say she was better than me - and it's fair to say I was dreadful!

Here's what Emily had to say about the game...

"I can strongly recommend getting together with a group of your friends to play this - I played it with my sister and Dad and it was excellent fun.

"You can also opt to sing along with characters from the show too which is really cool, and there is unlockable content as you progress through the game.

"If you are a true Gleek like me you will think this is great, I have played a few karaoke games on the Wii and Xbox 360 and this is up there with the best.

"The fact that this is based on Glee makes it brilliant."

So there you have it folks - a karaoke game with a Glee twist and plenty of appeal for fans of the show. I would just suggest you leave the kids to it.

Now where's my Rock Band 3 game.....

In fact he is probably far too old for it now which is why you will see a lot of reviews been done by kids... His major love is sports games and rates Sensible World of Soccer circa 90's as the greatest game ever made - closely followed by Championship Manager 2. Skyrim has currently taken over his life.
