Nintendo DS: Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief

By Steve Wollaston on Feb 28, 10 08:50 PM

Last week we featured the interactive Percy Jackson books on the DS, this week we have the official game based on the movie.

For those not familiar with the film Percy Jackson is the story of a group of kids born as Demigods, or half human and half gods. Percy is the son of Poseidon, and Zeus accuses him of being the thief of his famous lightning bolt - hence the title!

The game itself is a very straightforward RPG game. It is however a very well executed turn-based game that keeps in check with the usual procedures that come with the genre.

Everyone likes RPG games and the makers know that and have delivered one with mass appeal based on a big franchise.

The turn-based combat does require some thought. You control a team that needs to be healed as well as attacking the opposition.

Tactics of when to attack, defend, heal etc are important and that little bit of extra thought definitely adds to the mix.

The game is very much aimed at young teens, younger gamers will be alienated by the RPG element and elder gamers may feel it is a little to simplistic and limited in comparison to a Final Fantasy type title.

Graphically the game is good and the sound is also noticeably to a good standard, aside form the annoying grunts!

I find it fascinating that the style of the game will probably make it more appealing to an audience other than the one that was originally targeted!
