February 2010 Archives

DON your racing gloves and lucky helmet for a speed demon with a Mediterranean flavour.

Aliens vs Predator was launched last week with a huge amount of hype and it seems to have been justified with it currently the number one game in the charts - and the fastest selling game so far in 2010.

Last week we featured the interactive Percy Jackson books on the DS, this week we have the official game based on the movie.

Nintendo DS Review: Jonas

By Steve Wollaston on Feb 28, 10 08:45 PM

IT may have provided good wholesome entertainment and magical adventures for generations of children and adults, but I have one big issue with Disney... and that is The Disney Channel.

Well judging from the reaction of the presenter it certainly looks like it is shaping up nicely!

Flips: Percy Jackson (DS)

By Steve Wollaston on Feb 23, 10 08:06 PM

Flips and Percy Jackson are perfect partners in the sense that you are going to hear a lot more about both of them.

For those unfamiliar with Flips, it's a brand new product for the Nintendo DS that was introduced last year.

Dante's Inferno (PS3)

BOOK a ticket, pick your seat and strap yourself in... we're on a trip to Hell that could be one-way.

Unfortunately for me, I haven't picked up a book since I got laughed out of my A Level English class, so have never read The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.

Got the Buzz yet? If you've got a Google account, you probably have. Although, you might not realise it yet.

Buzz - www.google.com/buzz - is Google's latest big idea.

It's a bit like Facebook, but inside your email. It does many of the things that Facebook does, and does them fast. It lets you share stuff with everyone you know via Gmail, and with everyone else in the world via the web. It's a very exciting idea.

If that sounds familiar, that's because it is.

Only a few months ago, Google announced something that did the same sort of job.

It was called Google Wave - wave.google.com.

Wave was strictly for invitees-only. Invitations were few and far between, and internet users were clamouring to get their hands on them.

The Buzz launch couldn't be more different.

Buzz has been added to almost every Gmail account in the world, and almost overnight.

Buzz works like Facebook in that you are connected to people you know.

What can you do with Buzz? Share photos, links, videos, all that stuff. Have conversations.

What's interesting is that everything you do on Buzz appears on your Google Profile page - which effectively becomes a Buzz-powered blog.

Buzz ends up being a kind of glue - grabbing all the web stuff you do with Google and sticking it together in one place.

Wii games have been a bit thin on the ground since Christmas. The industry seems to have exhausted itself by throwing every single party game idea it could into the mix.

On the whole, they were awful, with the festive season setting a new precedent for saturating the games market with sheer crud.

Steve Wollaston - Sunday Mercury games reviewer Steve has been writing about video games for donkey's years. In fact he is probably far too old for it now which is why you will see a lot of reviews been done by kids... He has been nominated three times for Regional Games Journalist Of The Year at the Games Media Awards, but never wins. His major love is sports games and rates Sensible World of Soccer circa 90's as the greatest game ever made - closely followed by Championship Manager 2. Skyrim has currently taken over his life.
