Dark Void (360)

By Steve Wollaston on Jan 15, 10 07:58 PM

The combination of combat on foot and in the air via jet-pack set in a mysterious alien void made me sit up and take notice.

The concept of this game is brilliant as you switch from jet-pack dog-fighting to on the floor combat, the mechanics of both equally as good.

Flying using the jetpack is great fun and the fluidity of the controls excellent. It takes a while to master the combat in the air, especially with some of the tricky bosses.

The third person shooter is by no means groundbreaking and the game relies heavily on the appeal of the jetpack. Which is not to be sniffed at, as it's a great idea that is on the whole well executed.

The ability to fly through confined buildings as well as open spaces makes for some particularly exciting and lively gameplay.

Graphics, sound and atmosphere are nicely done. The pace of the game is very fast and furious and it makes for an exciting experience.

The shortcomings are in the gameplay. The unique mash-up of different genres is refreshing, but some of the combat is clunky.

But if you like sci-fi shooters with a twist, then this is definitely worth giving a go.
