Lego Rock Band (360): Perfect family fun

By Steve Wollaston on Dec 4, 09 02:14 PM

We have come a long way since the initial Lego Star Wars game that took the gaming world by storm.

Further incarnations have targeted Star Wars again, Batman, Indiana Jones and next up young Harry Potter.

This is the first time the series has strayed from the traditional platform brilliance though.

Essentially the game is a fusion between Rock Band and the Lego series, and a brilliant one it is too!

The backdrops on the songs are brilliant, utilising the Lego brand at every opportunity to provide colourful, quirky and vibrant playing arenas.

The cut scenes in between tracks are fantastic, nicely designed, cute graphics and good for setting the scene and challenging you to use 'The Power Of Rock' to complete a challenge through your skills.

For example you have to free your frozen friends by performing 'Breakout' by The Foo Fighters.

Famous faces are Lego'd. They include Blur, Spinal Tap, Queen, David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

The little themes keep the game ticking over nicely and give it another dimension to make it more interesting, especially for kids.

Characters in the game are much of a muchness with the earlier games apart from the fact that they are all now rockers!

The gameplay is also very much what you expect. I did like the fret-board though. It uses little Lego studs to symbolize the notes to play.

The game looks amazing. I have children aged 3, 11&16. They all loved it, and so did me and their mum.

This is the perfect family game in many ways and it is a more accessible version of the Rock Band franchise.

Up to four players can play on vocals, drums, guitar and bass making it probable mayhem in anyone's household.

Perfect for Christmas.
