THINK Spiderman meets Robocop

Twenty years is a long time to wait for a sequel by anyones standards, and Capcom have done themselves proud brining Bionic Commando into the third dimension.

The original game was notorious among gamers for its insane difficulty. Purists will be glad to know that nothing has changed, this game is tough!

Having spent the last ten years falsely imprisoned by his own government, Nathan Rad Spencer is called upon as the only person able to fight the terrorist organisation that has detonated an experimental weapon annihilating most of Ascension city.

Rekindled with your bionic arm, you propel a deadly whip of wire that can attach to pretty much any surface, allowing you to swing, zip and launch yourself across the city.

Naturally the arm can be used as a weapon for attacking terrorists, but success in the game is achieved through mastering the swing.

The graphics and mechanics of the game are visually stunning and one could spend hours simply watching Nathan diving off the side of a skyscraper before swinging through the crumbling ruins of Ascension City.

Fiendishly difficult levels resulted in me waking up my neighbours in the early hours of the morning with a cacophony of foul mouthed expletives Roy Chubby Brown would be proud of.

However, the auto-save points are well positioned thrusting you straight back into the action.

Although the game has an open world feel, boundaries are dictated by blue radiation clouds, which slowly kill you.

This makes the single player game relatively linear as you swing through each checkpoint, stopping along the way to dispose of some bad guys.

The bionic arm is what makes Bionic Commando an enjoyable game to play. Although standard multiplayer modes extend the game's lifespan, it cant compete with the likes of COD4 or Halo 3.
