Nintendo DSi: Console Review
THE next generation of handheld gaming is released next week with the arrival of the much publicised and highly anticipated Nintendo Disc.
I managed to get my sweaty palms on the handheld ahead of its European launch on April 3rd. It was actually in my palms for about 30 minutes - then the kids nicked it and I have seen very little of it since!
More than just a games machine the DSi is an all singing all dancing multimedia pal for all Nintendo fans. It also has two cameras camera, music player, sound editing package, Wi-Fi and online shop. The incorporated SD card reader allows the gamer to be able to import pictures and music.
It's like a DS with bells on, lots of bells - big shiny ones. The screen is bigger, it's altogether thinner and smarter and generally it's a slicker and sleeker upgrade of the DSi - the look of it isn't dramatically different.
One feature above all others was a massive hit with our kids - the sound editing. Record your voice and then fiddle around with the pitch, tone, speed etc to create some bizarre versions of your voice. Sounds very basic but actually even I have to admit it was extremely amusing.
We also enjoyed the photo-editing which allows you to warp each others faces and add some funny little effects.
The DSi is a great little gadget and the next logical step forwards from a Nintendo DS.
