Monsters v Aliens (XBOX 360)

By Steve Wollaston on Mar 31, 09 10:16 PM

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
That's what should be on the box of any movie to game tie-in. Let's face it there has been some real tosh over the years... things have been getting better though.

Dreamworks are in big competition with Pixar at the movies and it is seemingly more important these days that a solid gaming product accompanies the big screen action.

Review by Katie Smith aged 11

The aim of the game is to become an Elite Special Agent and solve problems and complete missons around the village and around you.

The graphics are really really good quality and the gameplay is even better. You can play mini-games whenever you please - they are great fun!

Review by Katie Smith aged 11

The aim of the game is to collect everything you've been asked and build everything you have blueprints for.

You can build some great inventions and test them out

A legend that has been left untouched and unexplored for years catches the doubtful attention of the Pompous Adventurer's Club's number one adventurer

I HAVE been a fan of the Broken Sword series for a decade or so now, the thought of a DS version of the game was intriguing to me.

Graphically the game surprised me, the Broken Sword ethos is perfectly recreated on the DS, it looks fantastic and the split screen is extremely well used.

Nintendo DSi: Console Review

By Steve Wollaston on Mar 27, 09 02:46 PM

THE next generation of handheld gaming is released next week with the arrival of the much publicised and highly anticipated Nintendo Disc.

I managed to get my sweaty palms on the handheld ahead of its European launch on April 3rd. It was actually in my palms for about 30 minutes - then the kids nicked it and I have seen very little of it since!

Dust off that spandex, stick on that greasepaint, perm your hair and oil those muscles... ok maybe not, but you do need to get into the spirit of things if you are going to cherish this game!

This is a huge dose of nostalgia as we revisit the 80s and 90s world of wrestling - the halcyon era of grappling.

If I had to describe this game in one word it would have to be 'genius'. Thankfully I have more than one so I can tell you why it is so good.

Walk With Me (Nintendo DS)

By Steve Wollaston on Mar 24, 09 12:52 PM

Another release that is fundamentally different to normal releases. Not content with dominating the market with Wii Fit, Nintendo have targeted DS owners for a fitness workout!

The game comes with two pedometers, there is no need to strap them round you - simply pop them in your pocket and away you go!

Games consoles are becoming very creative in their uses, they are being used not only for leisure purposes, they are also now being used for fitness and even education.

The medium that has been slated over the years for turning our brains to mush are now starting to really make people notice that they can have an altogether more responsible place in the home.

Nintendo have always pushed their products into having as many uses as possible - see the Wii.

This latest DS title they have introduced is a collection of classic novels that you can read on your DS.

This is the latest excellent kids title on the marker from Disney Interactive Studios.

Read the review here later in the week!

Steve Wollaston - Sunday Mercury games reviewer Steve has been writing about video games for donkey's years. In fact he is probably far too old for it now which is why you will see a lot of reviews been done by kids... He was recently nominated for Regional Games Journalist Of The Year at the Games Media Awards which he believes was a fluke. His major love is sports games and rates Sensible World of Soccer circa 90's as the greatest game ever made - closely followed by Championship Manager 2.
