Pirates: Duels on the High Seas (DS)

By Steve Wollaston on Oct 13, 08 09:47 PM

A jolly little title landed on my desk this week and whilst it may not pull up too many trees it's certainly worth a mention in a time where smaller games like this sometimes fail to get a mention.

It's basic bucanneering as you sail your galleon around the high seas shooting things up, collecting bits booty and picking up crewmen.

The gameplay is very simplistic indeed and harks back to an age of gaming that seems long passed - maybe that's why I liked it, I am a gaming dinosaur in many ways.

Had the kids played this one they would probably have been baffled by the cheap and cheerful approach.

For me though this was nicely designed, playable little game with some great graphics, sound and ideas.

It is held back by it's charm in many ways, people expect more.... sometimes that's a bad thing.

Score 3/5
