THE G-Casino in Coventry is hosting the richest poker event the city has ever seen - boasting a whopping £200,000 in prize money.

The Midlands' top card players will be competing against the best in the country at the spectacular venue, in the fifth leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour.

More than 100 players will compete in the £1,000-entry Main Event, which starts on Friday and runs through until Sunday night.

There had been rumours that British poker babe Liv Boeree would be playing. The sexy former astro-physics graduate made world headlines last month by scooping a cool £1 million after winning a top tournament in San Remo, Italy.

Her success has fuelled already rocketing interest in the game from girls, according to Paul Davies, general manager at the Ricoh Arena-based G-Casino.

He said: ''There's been a huge increase in female players in live tournaments, even before Liv's fantastic win. And the truth is these woman are just as good as the men.

''We are expecting top male and female players here for the Main Event, so it should be a great mixed event.''

The Coventry leg of the sponsored GUKPT has an estimated total prize pool of £200,000, with £100,000 up for grabs in the Main Event.

West Midlands professionals tipped to do well include Peter ''the Bandit'' Evans and Mickey Wernick, a retired Wolverhampton bookmaker who has previously played with US legends including Stu Ungar and Doyle Brunson.

The G-Casino has a real Las Vegas feel, with a flowing waterfall and its own theatre which hosts lives music acts and comedy nights.

Paul said: ''There's a definite Vegas vibe as customers come here for an all-round entertainment experience.
''It's not just about the gambling - it's a complete night out.''

As well as the Main Event, the GUKPT is running a series of side events. They include a £100 No Limit Hold 'Em Freezeout on Friday, a £250 No Limit Hold 'Em Freezeout on Saturday and a £100 Hold 'Em Bounty Tournament on Sunday.

You can qualify for all GUKPT events online at which is part of the world's largest poker network.

There is a £500 sign-up bonus available for new players and there are currently two special offers on, a Daily Cash Giveaway and a £50,000 Mulitplyer.
