Grinning at winning streak on Pokerstars

''I'M in the money...''
My last blog told how I'd come close to a big payday on Pokerstars after finishing 58th from a 26,000-plus field in a $10 Sunday night tournie.
For my efforts, I'd picked up $248. Good but not a truly great payday.
Well, guess what?
A week later I entered the same marathon tournament again - and this time finished EIGHTH, banking a beautiful $2,121.
A great result which left me grinning like a Cheshire Cat and this time there were no regrets about how I crashed out.

With just eight of us left, I was seventh in chips with an enormous 6.3 million stack. Blinds were a crazy 180,000 and 360,000, giving me around 18 big blinds.
I was in no rush to play them, but when I was dealt a pair of Queens in early position I bet a million. The folds followed quickly - until the small blind pushed all in.
Uh-oh, I thought.
I put him on AK and after thinking it through I called. He turned AK.
This pot was huge. It would rocket one of us up to second in chips and an almost guaranteed mega-payout, the other would be down and out.
The flop was suspiciously kind to me with three blanks. But of course the bullet arrived in slow motion on the turn and mercilessly killed me off.
I was done but I'd played great poker over seven hours and had gone into that final hand a clear favourite. I could ask no more.
It was only as I looked at the rapidly increasing cash-ladder that the pangs of regret started. Seventh place would have earned me $2,827 and 6th $4,241, then the top five offered £7,069, $9,896, $12,723, $17,502 - and first place was a whopping £25,447.
But this was one of my biggest paydays, so I'm gonna enjoy it.
And I'm now more determined than ever to conquer this very special Sunday night event and win the kind of money that could really kick-start a proper tilt at this poker game.
Third time lucky coming up...
