March 2009 Archives

Formula One made a welcome return at 7am yesterday morning out in Melbourne, and wasn't it great to see ridiculous well paid men spending a couple of hours driving round and round without actually going anywhere!

Honestly if Jensen Button was a taxi driver he would be rubbish......you'd go everywhere fast, but end up where you started from...........luckily he isn't and he netted a very impressive win for his new team!
Victory is sweet for Button, who now looks like he finally has a car to show what he is really capable of.jpg

So this weekend see's the return of Formula One, with new rules, new teams and a whole world of anticipation!!!

I can't wait till Sunday morning when It all kicks off, and it looks like it will be an amazing season ahead, with the eventual winner being anyone's guess!!

Lewis gives it some tap.jpg
One thing is for sure though is that our champ Lewis will be well off teh pace in the first race, lets hope he can provide us all with a magical drive to prove me worng, but it does seem as though McLaren will struglle for the early part of the season.

Well it's a Wednesday, and as always I try and take a look at something in the world of sport that has caught my eye and give you my thoughts in what has become the editorial section of this blog!
Me on a good day....................
I have had a week of weights and rugby training due in part to it being a rest week and also I managed to tweak my knee during training last week, and that's one good thing with getting older, you realise when your body is telling you its time to take a rest, instead of carrying on and making things worse!!

When Stephen Jones' last second penalty dropped inches short at the Millennium stadium on Saturday afternoon, for the first time in 61 years the Irish could celebrate winning the Grand Slam, and more importantly, their fans could finally rejoice at the fact they hadn't thrown it away at the last hurdle again...........just!

Ireland win the 2009 Six Nations championship from last years' champions Wales, and with it the Triple Crown and Grand Slam
Over the years Irish fans have had to put up with getting so close so many times, and when the men in green gave away THAT penalty in the last minute, I bet you a few had their hearts in their mouths, but the luck was, as they say, with the Irish and after so many near misses finally Brian O'Driscoll's men had achieved the unimaginable.

It's Crunch time!!

This weekend will see the finale of what has been a tremendous Six Nations, one that has seen Ireland rediscover their best, Wales stutter but show glimpses of what they can do and England seemingly coming out of their transition phase and actually starting to believe in themselves.

Decider time
After all the action of the last couple of months, it all comes down to one afternoon of rugby, and three huge games to decide the outcome of the Six Nations, and I thought I would give you my guide to all the games, plus a look ahead to this weekends big footy action!

Yes............get in!! I work with a number of Hull City supporters, and finally I have managed to shut them up after their 2-1 victory at the Emirates earlier this season. Yes, Gallas was offside, yes, we were awful in the first half, yes, we just scraped it, but the fact is we are through to the Semi finals of the FA Cup!!!
Fabregas wanders onto the pitch after our 2-1 win over Hull, he looks like he has a particularly dry mouth
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahha!! Sorry Hull fans, you truly deserve credit for how your team has represented in the premier league this year, but now things are not looking good, with about 1 win in 4987 games and even Phil Brown starting to lose the plot, claiming Fabregas spat at his assistant.....then changing it to "Well he spat at his feet............." sounds like someone clutching at straws!

I can't believe it!!! Seriously, after all the build up and pressure on the England players and management alike, it must have felt amazing to run out at Twickenham yesterday and have a try on the board within a minute!
Even tackling machine Joe Worsley managed to score a try
England were on fire for 40 minutes, they did the basics well and made sure that when they did secure ball not only was it quick, but it was always on a platform that was moving forward. The boys simply wanted it more than the French players, and when they did have it in hand, wasn't it nice to see them string together some passes and look like a side who could actually score a try from anywhere on the pitch.

Our boys did us proud, and there were some top performances all over the park, with Borthwick leading from the front, Croft showing why he was picked in the back row, Toby Flood running things with ball in hand in the first half and the rest of the backs like Cueto and Armitage cutting the French midfield to pieces. Honestly, after months of frustration, it finally all clicked and now the players and fans alike know what we are capable, it's just a case of making sure it happens more often.

The Weekend has Landed!!!

The joys of international rugby return's this weekend as the penultimate round of the Six Nations begins, with some massive games and some rather large points to be proven!
Martin Johnson unleashes the anger after Danny Care gets himself sinbinned against the Irish
On Saturday we have two matches that despite all the potential for upsets, should be quite straight forward, with a wounded Wales side, after their defeat to the French, looking to pile the misery on the gritty but hapless Italians in Rome and Ireland hoping to keep their Grand Slam dream alive against the Scots at Murrayfield.

Well Rafa Benitez said before the game at Anfield last night that he deserved a bit more credit for his record of success in Europe, and after last nights result I don't thing anyone will begrudge him a little bit of a pat on the back!
Torres and Gerrard were on fire in Liverpools 4-0 win over Real Madrid
Wow is all I can say, for Liverpool to beat Real Madrid would have been one thing, but to take them apart like they did, and make them look slow, old and one dimensional was astonishing. If I was a Liverpool fan the only questions I would be asking is why cant Torres and Gerrard always be fit, and why the hell cant we play like that in the Premier League!! Well those and why doesn't Rafa grow a handlebar tash!

Back with a Bang!

Sorry for my lack of bloggage last week, I was just so upset by the England rugby performance I couldn't force myself to get out of bed, let alone actually contemplating thinking about it to write something!!!

O'Driscoll extends the lead for the men in green as he burrows through the England defence to score the opening try of the matchNot to worry though as I am back to full strength having spent the week recuperating and the blog will be back to being updated Monday, Weds and Friday......don't get too excited though, as your head might explode!
