A Cup-tastic Weekend, the Biking Viking, and why everybody needs to go snowboarding!

By Luke Wilkins on Jan 26, 09 03:33 PM

So we had a weekend of vital cup clashes in the world of football and my beloved egg chasing, but while drama was high on the menu, there were not a lot of my favourite type of results around, the magical CUPSET! Well apart from Swansea dumping out the holders Pompey, which was always on the cards and kudos to Kettering and Torquay (who were my tip for a giant-killing) for playing their socks off, if only football lasted 85 minutes hey!
Kettering vs Fulham

Saturday afternoon for me on the Offside show was immense, as the goals were flying in, and for the first time I was involved in the Sunday Mercury's live blog, an awesome concept that involves journalists reporting live from every West Mid's ground, me being the geek and updating you on all the other major scores and facts, and banter from all and sundry! Missed it? Well don't miss out next week's fun and games, just go to the sport section of the website from 2pm on Sat and log in to join in plus of course make sure your listening to Offside on Kerrang from 1pm!

I must admit I did shed a tear when Wasps went crashing out of the Heineken Cup on Sunday, but not of sadness, of sheer blooming joy!! Ahahahahahahahahahahaha! Sorry it's just having been a Tigers fan for so long, and with most of my mates down South being Wasps fans, you can imagine the rivalry we have, and it was great to see them get their come-uppance for once! Especially as the Tigers went through, even if it was due to some negative tactics and supposedly a nice bit of eye gouging from Julian White......well if the oppo can't see their not going to score are they.

I am pumped about my second visit to the mighty Tamworth Snowdome this week where I shall build upon my instructor AT's excellent advice from last week, and I am hoping by the end of my lesson to be pulling 180's, twists, jumps, and a heel flip side wonky mucho numpty 1420..............at least I think that is what its called! Seriously though, having played sport all my life, but never really having had the chance to try "extreme" sports, I can't tell you how amazing and liberating, and to me almost spiritual, snowboarding is! You have to try it, and I must admit the guys and gals down at Tamworth are awesome, hell if I can learn to do it, then anyone can! Here is a pic of me in action.....okay this isn't really me, but my Tim Warwood from the Amped show (6-10pm Saturday), he is rather good!

Its been a top week at kerrang too, last week we had Delta Spirit, and The View in, the latter who were kind enough to sign the Streetbike Offside R6 bike we are auctioning off for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the spring, and today (Monday) we also had the All American Rejects in and they did the same, and here is the evidence:

If you want to see who else has signed the bike, click here for all of the pics, just click on the bike in the bottom right hand corner!

I also found some time to myself at the weekend, and took the bike out to Clent Hills, where I had one of those philosophical moments of sitting back and just soaking up the view.............well I say that, but to be fair it was mostly so I could get some warmth back into my hands with a cup of coffee as it was so cold!

This week, the big album out is Tonight with Franz Ferdinand, which is the Scottish angular rockers third effort, and I like it, its stripped down, and bit more electro (who isn't nowadays) and just darn right funky, and if you can listen to the lead single Ulysses without then walking around saying to everyone you meet "I'm Ulysses" then you're a better person than me! Also worth checking out if The Rifles Great Escape, I saw these guys at Glasto in 2007 and they blew me away, and they have been touring with Oasis recently, and I just like what they do. Plus they will be on Offside this week, so if you r a fan, don't miss it!!

Now my mission, is to try and update this blog now much more frequently, with pics of bands, stories of my Snowboarding greatness, and of course my thoughts of sport, so keep checking back, and if you get a spare moment check out my friend Kitty's new blog, she is a very talented, intelligent, amazing person, and its not often you get such a mixture of beauty and brains combined.......well apart from with me obv!

PS - 5 self taught guitar lessons in, and I am kicking arse, I can now play 8 chords, and I intend to be announcing details of my first album very soon.................oh and if someone wants to lend me the tips of their left hand that would be ace, because mine are now permanently numb!!
