My tattoo, Mindless Self-Indulgence and brave battling Gran

By Kate Lawler on Jul 10, 08 02:18 PM in

Hello everyone - my very first blog!

I was really excited when I was asked to do this as I'm a massive chatterbox and enjoy writing in my diary.

This, however, will be a blog written by myself every two weeks, telling stories and tales of what I've been up to - I hope you enjoy reading it.

As I sit at my desk in the Kerrang! Radio office, I'm in a bit of pain.

This morning I visited SK:N Clinic in Harborne for laser treatment on the tattoo on my tummy.

I don't like my tattoo anymore and I'm currently having laser treatment to remove it.

Every six weeks I go to see Natalie at the clinic. It's a really lovely place, and they do all kinds of skin treatments.

Natalie is lovely, too but I must do her nut in with the amount of screaming that comes out my mouth.

It's really painful!

By next year it'll have completely disappeared, though.

In the meantime, here's some advice - DON'T GET TATTOOS!

You'll regret them in the long run.

Mindless Self Indulgence (one of my favourite bands) have just walked in to the building for some interviews! I'm star-struck.

Jimmy Urine from the band has the most outrageous hair I've ever seen! Punk rock star / electric shock is the only way I can describe it.

Amazing though...

Tonight I'm going to present an award at 'Taste of Birmingham', a gala evening where The Restaurant Awards are as well.

I rarely get dressed up so I'm looking forward to the evening - lots of lovely restaurants serving yummy dishes and delicious canapés.

I'm presenting the Restaurant of the Year Award.

Having lived in Birmingham for nine months now, I've yet to experience many restaurants so hopefully I'll be able to take note of the winners and get myself to some cool places instead of living off takeaways!

This weekend I'm DJing at The Plug in Sheffield. I've played there before - it's a really cool club. I'm looking forward to it and I'm soooooo glad I've got Friday off.

I tend to DJ both Friday and Saturday nights, which can be really tiring, so I'm going to chill out Friday night and go shopping Saturday day time...

Woo woo!

By the way, my nanny has just finished radiotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer and I just want to say how proud I am of her.

She was diagnosed with cancer last August and straight away gave up and thought it was the end of her life.

But with my family and my granddad's support, along with her own latter self-belief, she came through chemo and radiotherapy.

Her hair has all grown back and she is looking radiant and beautiful again.

Well done, nanny! If you know anyone, or you are someone in the same position, remember it is so important to stay positive and never give up.

Thanks for reading and I'll be blogging again soon.

Don't forget I present the drive time show on Kerrang! Radio Monday to Friday 4pm to 7pm.

And if you want to know where I'm DJing at the weekend go to www.myspace.com/djkatelawler

Love the blog, Kate. And the show.

Is this the same gran you played that priceless reverse charge call trick on?

More than £100 wasn't it?

When are you DJing in Brum next?

Keep writing.

I'm reminded of the (possibly apochryphal) tale of Johnny Depp, who had Winona Ryder's first name tattooed on his arm, then decided to have it lasered off when they broke up. Trouble is, the treatment was so painful, he gave up after just too letters, leaving him with the label "Wino".

Almost as funny as the look on your face the night the other BB housemates managed to con the odious Jade Goody out of her undies. You obviously couldn't believe what you were seeing, and viewers didn't want to believe what they were seeing.

This blog is great. I have followed kate since bb3-she seems genuine and celebrity has not changed her. Its also great that she worked hard on something she enjoyed and is now a top notch dj. well done kate! I will be back every 2 weeks to read the column.
