Sporting thought of the day
Did the Toon Army seriously think that the ridiculous fairytale appointment of Alan Shearer would be all it takes to keep them in the Premier League?
It's not all about passionate fans and a legend at the helm, the club's dismal on-the-field results have a lot to do with the over-paid, over-stocked and over-rated squad of players at St James Park.
The general consensus outside of the north-east is that Newcastle are the one that the neutrals want relegated this season to finally dispel this 'big club' myth once and for all.
No club has a god-given right to be in the top flight.

Great point, well made Andy!
They have Premier League support but a Championship level team. Like you said, too many over-rated "stars" with no manager at the helm capable of creating a team out of them!
I don't blame Shearer for coming back to try to help and I respect him for taking it on. He knew that the odds were heavily stacked against him and he still came to put his rep on the line. But Mike Ashley is the fool. Should have tried to get a more experienced manager until the end of the season.
But ultimately, I think relegation will be sweet revenge on a club that treated it's best manager for decades in Sir Bobby Robson so disgracefully after all the great work he'd done...
