Harvey Nichols Fashion Circus marks 10 years of style
They promised us the party of the year, and ladies and gentlemen, boy did they deliver. Who am I talking about? Why, Harvey Nichols of course my darlings - it was their 10th anniversary of being at home in our fair city you see; Who else in Birmingham could pull in Alexandra Burke, Nikki Sanderson, Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, 'The Only Way Is Essex's Joey Essex, Cara and Billi, Layla Monoochehri and Danielle Lloyd (who, it just so happens, once upon a time endorsed a wine brand, let us film her in Birmingham, said the wrong thing and caused her PR team to panic - media training my lovelies, media training - we will publish your mistakes remember)?
That's not to mention the host of footballers along with Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish , Terry Connor from Wolves and Birmingham's newest celebrity hairdressing resident Adee Phelan.
Most importantly of all though, there was also me.... ahem (well, who else is going to write this blog post?).
That's quite a precedent they've now set in terms of a guestlist for the rest of Birmingham. Can someone do it again soon I wonder? Well, naturally watch this space.
The guestlist wasn't the only precedent they happen to have set, sadly, for those wanting to pull off a lavish celebration without the Harvey Nichols budget. Think circus without the silly, scary, giant shoe-wearing Ronald McDonald style clown; think instead of stilt walkers, fire dancers, contortionists, a caricaturist, mime artist, escapologist, magician and tarot card reader, Peridot Dance Troupe.... [breathe]... candyfloss, mini fish and chips, popcorn (for some reason I was too busy sipping the Perrier Jouet champagne to nibble at any of these) and a fashionable take on games such as hoopla, pin the tail on the donkey and the coconut shy, seeing winners walking away with brand new Louboutins (not me - boohoo) and bottles of champagne. Aside from the inevitably glamorous fashion show, however, one of the most fun parts of the night had to be the photobooths; a Burberry photobooth and a fabulous 'dressing up box' for adults, with costumes, boas and hats galore and a photographer on hand to capture every pose - see the results below:
Yes my dears, Harvey Nichols did it again, but unlike Britney (who "performed" in Birmingham on Sunday leaving much to be desired - or rather little after projecting a crotch shot on the big screen and wearing far too few clothes for a young audience), the ever luxury store pulled out more stops than any of us imagined creating the perfect mix of fun, celebration and fashion... literally transforming the front of the Mailbox into a circus.
A nice little added extra was the presence of DJs Dixon Bro's in the entrance to the party - one half of whom I once shared university halls with in this here Birmingham. Check them out.
