Celebrating Birmingham Independents Day!
So you know me, love my fashion, hate to be seen wearing the same as anyone else in the room, like to have my finger on the pulse, don't like to be challenged because it makes me angry and want to throw a Diva strop (I WILL win this argument...).
Well, last Thursday I was invited along to celebrate Independents Day... that is, Birmingham independent retailers, as opposed to Independence Day which is a federal holiday in the United States and also the name of a film featuring icky, ugly, evil aliens.
This day came in the form of a fashion show in Birmingham's Great Western Arcade - one of the prettiest shopping venues in Birmingham City Centre, sadly not as populated as I'd like to see it but still, it also houses Mr Simms Ye Olde Sweet Shop (dangerous for sugar fiends like myself - I recommend!).
Now I could give you a complete run down of how fabulous the show was, what the models wore, what they looked like (a little on the thin side - men and women - but still, they wouldn't be models if they weren't would they, and no one wants to see my 'rounded' derriere bouncing down the catwalk), etc etc, but as it happens, some clever clogs from Retail Birmingham had the rather brilliant idea of taking along a video camera to capture it all and edit it into a nice little three minute video for you.
So here you go - I thought I'd share since quite frankly, all of you lot weren't going to fit into the narrow realms of the Great Western Arcade.
So, what did we think? Birmingham has some great independent stores? Well, of course we do! And now they've got your attention, here's the list of them for you in order of appearance (note - order of appearance on the entire show):
Disorder
Beadesaurus
Breina
Atoo
Wysteria Lane
Aspecto
Prowler
Sonique
Onu
Autograph
Norton & Townsend
So ladies and gentlemen, get yourself down to one or all of these fantastic boutiques and stores, snap up some original pieces then go wear them with pride whilst you chew on a delicious banana chocolate truffle from Mr Simms in the Great Western Arcade (I, my dears, again took the pleasure of trying before you buy and I can *quite* recommend them).
P.S. If you look in the bottom right hand corner, you might see a man in a hat. That's Simon. He's cool. You also might see a very cool person sat next to him (even further to your right). That's me.
