My date with Nasty Nick..!
Noooo, not Nasty Nick from Eastenders. Worse in fact. A date with nasty Nick from Big Brother! Remember him?

So. The date:
Thursday July 15 2004.
Venue? Somewhere in Mayfair, London.
On the menu? Wine, wine... and more wine.
Dress code: Fancy
Before this gets too far down the line and I lose any ounce of street cred I once had... he didn't ply me with wine, we weren't alone and nothing actually happened... at all in fact. THANK GOD!
It all came about when I was down in London for 5 weeks doing my work placement in the fashion department of New Woman magazine (RIP New Woman - it hasn't been around for a couple of years now). This particular Thursday happened to be the day that their intern (who worked there UNPAID for a year - wrong!) was leaving to finish her university degree, and also the then Fashion Director for More! magazine, Wendy Rigg, was having a private leaving party at a venue in Mayfair.
Naturally a few of us in the fashion department decided to combine the two events in the evening, starting with nibbles and drinks for the intern, and carrying on to the party later on.
Here's the fun part:
Party dresscode: Fancy dress.
What does that translate to? Wine fuelled raiding of the fashion cupboard (Note: this is where all the clothing/shoe/jewellery/accessories samples are stored when they are called in for a photoshoot - I spent the best part of 5 weeks in there. yes, I did end up looking a little pale and pallid due to the lack of sunlight and funding for fake tan).
Great! Out came the feather boas, the glittery hats, the giant flourescent net tutus, the spotty cut off tights....don't believe me, take a look:

Yes - a lot of fun!
So after we'd decided on our fancy dress outfits and eaten our nibbles, we headed over to the bar across the road, before joining the party in Mayfair.
Needless to say, the evening was a little rose tinted... in the sense of rose wine that is. But nevertheless, it didn't stop me from casting my eyes over Nasty Nick from Big Brother...
I'd better just confess here, it wasn't an actual date with Nasty Nick, although it was a date (July 15th) and I was at a party with a select few others, one of whom happened to be Nasty Nick. Ha!
The 'rendez-vous' went a little something like this (diary extract from my placement):
"I stood next to Nasty Nick and Stuart from BB! They're MINGIN'! But I'm sure they clocked me... or thought I'd clocked them... I'd had a bit of wine by then, I don't know!"
Haha. Yes. I can indeed confirm everyones fears. Nasty Nick was quite frankly... "mingin' "
There you go. My date with Nasty Nick. Thank goodness it was just literally a 'date'!
