NEC Birmingham: Not glamorous. ExCel London: SO glamorous... give me a break!
See the ladies in the photo below? they couldn't possibly be going to a fashion show in Birmingham - Birmingham's not glamorous enough for that..... oh no wait! They ARE! Clothes Show Live last year at the NEC Birmingham to be precise.

I may be about to back-track and ever so slightly contradict myself from a previous blog 'Birmingham: No style capital', but here we go...
I've set up 'google-alerts' to deliver online articles relating to Birmingham fashion & style direct to my email inbox every day. Yesterday I was alerted to a blog post about the upcoming Clothes Show London - previously Clothes Show Live held at the NEC Birmingham.
And so I quote:
"The Clothes Show Live is now in its twentieth year and has, in previous years, taken place in the less glamorous location of the Birmingham NEC Arena. This year it is moving to the fashion capital London." (read the rest here)
Aaaaargh! Seriously! Sweetheart, let me point out a few facts before you let careless comments spill from your mouth (or keyboard in this case):
1 - ExCel's exhibition space is no more 'glamorous' than the NEC - it's an exhibition space. It's a massive empty hall filled with exhibition fixtures decorated by the exhibitors.
2 - No one will be going to the event 'just because it's in the fashion capital' - they'll only see inside the exhibition hall - which is not exactly classed as 'seeing London'.
3 - You wouldn't even have it back in London if it hadn't become such a success in the NEC over the past few years.
And I also have a little quibble; why oh why must 'London' be included in the name? It's OK - we get the point - it's in London and not Birmingham. At least calling it Clothes Show Live, as opposed to Clothes Show London, doesn't exclude the rest of the country from the equation.
Aside from that, it's set again to be a fantastic event, although despite any claims, I doubt there will be anything spectacularly new, apart from the venue of course. Not that I will be finding out. I won't be going this year because quite frankly, I can't afford the train fare, tube fare and London price tags. So good luck attracting all the previous Scottish and northern fans.
