Fashion show falls flat

By Sarah Morris on May 16, 09 11:09 PM in Fashion

... on the model's backside!

It appears I am not the only person who occasionally tumbles from their stilt-high-heels. The fashion show 'One Night Only' at Harvey Nics on Thursday evening featured models from Saphires Model Management (who organised the event) strutting down the catwalk in sky scraper heels. Not one managed to walk comfortably, and to my delight, the one model who I was particularly jealous of (beautiful looking girl) completely stacked it, falling flat on her backside at the beginning of the catwalk, a little like Naomi Campbell in the picture below. Bless. At least when I do that I'm not being paid to keep my balance...

As I said though, she was lovely looking. And the rest? A couple of the blokes looked like they'd been plucked fresh from the high street, and one looked like action man's brother. The first girl to walk out wobbled her way through every strut whilst simultaneously pulling off a total 'away with the fairies' appearance incredibly well. She had great hair though, thanks to Lisa Shepherd's stylists. They did have one very quirky red headed model, whose personal style could almost give Agyness Dean a run for her money.

I would love to be able to rave about the event, but if I'm honest it wasn't the best show that Harvey Nics has lent itself to:

The show was very short and half the clothes used were from Juicy Couture...
I'm sorry - I didn't realise Paris Hilton was the meant to be making a guest appearance?
I could have sworn it was the fashion guru that is Caryn Franklin I was looking at. And although she is known for her slightly way-out dress sense, I wasn't taken by her choice of ensemble this time around, plus for all her presenting experience, I was surprised to hear so many 'erm's' in a speech, although really I'm not so concerned with that as much as the fact that a part of the information she had been given on her prompt cards was all wrong. Maybe the reason for the 'erm's'? There was a silent auction you see. The info and bid sheets were on our seats and apparently an envelope should be according to Caryn. There were no envelopes, which became apparent by the confused looks on the entire audiences faces. Oh dear.
Sadly I'm a little dubious as to whether many in that room would place a bid anyway - much of the guestlist, oddly, didn't really strike me as the usual Harvey Nics fashion pack, apart from the odd one or two. I do hope I'm wrong about this though.

At this point, I must say, the event is not at all a reflection on Harvey Nichols as I've worked with them on an event previously, as well as attended a couple of their other events, all of which have been fantastic (one of which you can read about here). Unfortunately though, this wasn't really one of them. It had all the ingredients of a potentially fantastic event: celebrity fashion expert (and my personal fashion industry inspiration... one of them) Caryn Franklin, the whole of Harvey Nichols' clothing ranges to choose from, award winning hair stylist Lisa Shepherd's team doing hair (this was a plus - the hair styling was fabulous), good auction items, their own models.... yet somehow the whole thing just seemed a little disorganised, a little flat, and not so sensational as it could have been.

The free wine, champagne, cocktails and canapes were absolutely spot on though!

Always amusing when a model stacks it on the catwalk... Gives us mere mortals a bit of a giggle!

Shame Paris didn't put in an appearance! I reckon even the most reserved among us would have raised a chuckle had she ended up flat on her backside!

I am shocked at the items I overlooked before I read this post. Thanks for the great information.
