Bags of conscience - only ã95!

The ã95 'It' bag with a conscience has arrived... "hurrah!" Fashionistas the world over are supposed to cry... except instead we're all crying because we STILL can't afford it!
The bag in question is a limited edition Mulberry/Gap collaberation on a 'cheaper' Mulberry Bayswater 'It' bag going on sale in Gap stores from this Saturday 6th December, reportedly to mark World Aids Day.
So what is the 'conscience' bit, I hear you ask? First of all 50% of the profits will go towards fighting Aids in Africa...and secondly, I presume it is the fact that, with the traditional leather Mulberry Bayswater 'It' bag retailing at approximately ã495, this ã95 version means you're saving a massive ã400?
Please ingest what I am about to say properly:
Aside from the fact that half the profits are going to a very worthy cause (this bit I totally agree with by the way)...
What on earth could make you think that spending ã95 on a bag is in any way whatsoever investing in fashion 'with a conscience'?
So this version is a whole ã400 cheaper than the normal version of it... so what? Would you even have considered it at ã495? No!
If you want my advice, go and produce an 'It' bag 'with a conscience' that yes, has half it's profits going to a worthy cause, but also actually does the job of having a conscience - on our finances AND the cause! Retail the bag at ã30-ã40 so more people can (just about) afford it and ultimately raise more money for the cause through increased volume of sale!
But even then, revisiting my previous comments on 'Supermarket Chic' and regular trips to Primark, where perfectly stylish bags can sometimes be found for as little as ã10, I must ask the question again: What truly credit-crunched individual can justify spending an absolute fortune on an 'It' bag which will inevitably soon go out of fashion's favour once the new 'It' bag hits the streets next season?
Sorry - as much as I'd like to own a so-called " 'It' bag with a conscience", I'll stick to my cheap but chic versions on the high street and donate money to charity as and when I see fit - I'm not breaking my bank anymore than it needs to be broken right now!
