Fairytales, fantasies... and a trip to Primark!

And the winner is....

Katy Perry! For setting the new EMA world record for the most ridiculous costume changes in its awards history!

I must hand it to the girl though - 11 outfit changes in one evening is pretty impressive. She's certainly outdone me, even if they were a little bizarre; spinning merry-go-round skirt, banana swing (so technically that's a prop, but still!), half tuxedo half ballerina costume, 'Obama' dress.... There's no guessing who she voted for there then!

Perhaps she had been taking tips from the December issue of British Vogue with its 'Fantastic Fashion Fantasy' theme?

Being a huge fairytale fan (and always away with the fairies...apparently), I do actually think the 'fashion' features are particularly stunning this time around, with pages interpreting scenes from fairytales and children's stories such as (naughty) Little Red Riding Hood , James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits.

Seriously though, when is anyone actually going to wear a badly painted dress that's six feet too long for them? (Sorry Vivienne, I love most of your designs, but really?). Or how about painting yourself blue and wearing nothing but matching blue frilly knickers? Maybe a giant swan as the head piece to your dress? Apart from Bjork of course....

Yes, it would seem the fashion world has gone completely costume crazy. Mad as a hatter!

Watch this space for news of Alice in Wonderland inspired fashion... with tips from the Mad Hatter and the March Hare!

Some designers must just have far too much money and far too many fantasies to play with, which they evidently don't mind flaunting to us mere credit crunched mortals who are forced to create our own fashion fantasies out of little more than a five pound note and a trip to Primark!

Don't get me wrong - if I could live in a real life fairytale I most definitely would... but let's be realistic. It's not going to happen is it.

I guess we can still dream and pretend though. Fancy dress party anyone?

OMG that Obama dress was AMAZING... I'm not even sure how I feel about him as a person, but as a dress pattern, he rocks!

Tara, don't you think it was just another celebrity jumping on the Obama 'bandwagon'? I was rooting for him myself, however it did strike me as a bit cliche.... and an ever so slightly glammed up version of a 'Vote Obama' T-Shirt!

Absolutely it was another case of the 'Obama bangwagon' I just happen to like sequins a lot... as you can tell from my 80s revival last weekend. Personally I would have put Jude Law's or Frank Lampard's face on the dress... what a great excuse to stand in front of a mirror all day!

As for the Obama presidency - as in most cases with politics, he was the lesser of two evils probably. I'm sure he'll be good for not just America, but the world. But this is politics... nothing is straight forward!

I love Katy Perry...all I'm thinking is if she made 11 outfit changes that means she was naked at least 10 times back stage...oh to be a stage hand!
