Bev Bevan Diaries: March 2011
Here's a look back at a busy March for yours truly!
1st .
March 1st, being a Tuesday, meant the first of this month's drives to The Mailbox in Birmingham for my weekly radio show on BBC WM 95.6 between 10pm and midnight, along with my co-host Jimmy Franks.
We generally fit in around two dozen tracks during the 2 hours, as well as putting the world to rights too. There has been, as always, some terrific music played this month, including tracks from Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Rumer, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, The Move, Eagles, Texas, ELO, Little Richard, Dusty Springfield, The Rolling Stones, Linda Ronstadt, Toto, Paul Carrack, Santana and Z Z Top.
Tune in - you'll love it! Alternatively you can listen via your computer on BBC iplayer at anytime.
3rd
Along with my lead guitarist Tony Kelsey, drove to Clitheroe in Lancashire for gig with The Move at great little venue there. The Animals also on the bill.
5th
Another gig with our good friends The Animals, this one at another lovely little theatre in Runcorn, near Liverpool.
9th
Along with my old friend Jasper Carrott drove over to near Stourport on Severn for press conference to launch a charity golf day, coming up in September, at Astbury Hall Golf Club, which is owned by fellow muso K K Downing, lead guitarist with Judas Priest. Nice looking course. We had planned to play but it was too bloody cold and windy!
18th
A gig for Bev Bevan's Move at Building 21 in Barnsley, Yorkshire , a converted railway sidings next to the station. Very cool place and great rock'n'roll venue. Herman's Hermits and The Animals also on the show.
20th
Gig for The Move at a "Holiday Park" in Ilfracombe in glorious Devon, one of my favourite places in Britain.
26th
Final gig of the month at Butlins in Bognor Regis, with the Move (which includes two original members in myself and Trevor Burton, plus Phil Tree, Neil Lockwood and Tony Kelsey). Two shows in two different venues, one at 8pm and one at 11pm.. Fantastic response from the big ,sold out crowd. Plenty of Hen parties and Stag do's and lots of folks in Sixties style fancy dress. Great fun as always.
29th
A meeting in Birmingham with Mike Olley, organiser of The" Broad Street Walk of Stars" events. It's now confirmed that the presentation of my "Walk of Stars" award will take place at that amazing nightclub, "Gatecrasher" on Broad Street, near Five Ways in Birmingham on Thursday April 28th ( the night before the Royal wedding)..
Looks like BBC Midlands Today will cover the presentation live on air, around 6.45pm, then my band will play at Gatecrasher, and hopefully be joined on stage by Raymond Froggatt with Hartley Cain, Danny King, Trevor Burton, Jasper Carrott and Tony Iommi.
Should be a brilliant night. Tickets are only £10 and all profits are going to the Birmingham Mail Charity Fund. Why don't you come along ? Tickets are available through www.gatecrasher.com or by calling 0844 870 0000.
Be there or be square!
