Former Lost, Lord of The Rings and FlashForward star Dominic Monaghan has spoken about the demise of FlashForward.
In a recent interview he told how he got involved in the show:
"I met with the creators and they asked me, 'what do you want to do next?' I responded by telling them I wanted to play someone drastically different from the last character I played. I wrote down all the new things I wanted to do and they fashioned the idea of Simon (Campos - his FlashForward character) so it was difficult to say no at that point as they had done everything I had asked.
"I read the pilot and I didn't think that there was anything that I could do, although I did like the project. I told them that I liked the pilot but couldn't play an American because I wouldn't play the part as well as an American actor so they then wrote Simon."
He also told of his shock that the show got cancelled...
"I was out for dinner with a few cast members when one of the creators turned up and told us. We were all really sad and disappointed. I think there is a lot of reasons why it got cancelled but I don't think it had anything to do with ratings. Issues at ABC and changes with the show meant it went the way it did. We were sad that it went that way and I felt bad for the creators who had a lot more invested in it than we did.
"It did quite well in other countries and for shows to do as well as FlashForward did and then get cancelled in America really didn't follow through. The changes didn't fill anyone with a huge amount of confidence that the show was doing okay and I think that is why it was cancelled."
Following FlashForward with eager anticipation every week?
Trying to unravel the mystery?
Don't bother.
Bosses at ABC have just pulled the plug on the show after just one series.
The show has suffered dwindling ratings for a while now, caused by hit and miss writing and a messy plot.
Hopes had been raised of a second season when it turned out that international sales for the programme were doing well.
But Entertainment Weekly has revealed the axe has swung on the show.
A pity: the premise to the show was interesting, but it never really got to go anywhere in the end.
The news comes just 24 hours after Heroes suffered the same fate. Other shows cancelled by ABC include Scrubs and Better Off Ted.

Just a reminder that the maddening FlashForward returns to UK screens tonight after a three-month break, during which the writers have been making some sense of the storyline.
It's on Five at 9pm, with a second episode at 10pm. And if you've forgotten where we're up to, then there's a 'previously on FlashForward' on Fiver at 8pm.
Tonight Mark Benford is suspended by the FBI, and sinister Simon Campos hacks into kidnapped physicist Lloyd Benford's computer.
A couple of teasers for you, however.
Simon is the man who didn't black out in Detroit.
Genesis 2:17 is going to be significant. That's a big number, of course: the blackout lasted 2 minutes 17 seconds.
It reads 'But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.' "
(Parallels with Lost there, folks)
And there is going to be another flash forward.
Until then, business as usual.
DOMINIC MONAGHAN is having to do some "crazy hectic stuff" to shoot FlashForward's dramatic series ending and Lost's final ever scenes.
"It's exhausting but ultimately, hopefully, it'll be worthwhile because it'll stand the test of time. Pain is temporary - film is forever!" the actor joked in Beverly Hills.
The cast of FlashForward came out to meet fans at a special Q & A as part of the Paley Centre For Media's PaleyFest 2010.
"[For Lost I've been] flying in on a Monday night and working until Thursday and then working in LA on a Friday morning [with FlashForward]," Dominic explained.
FlashForward returns on Five with a double bill on March 22 at 9pm and 10pm.
It's back folks!
Joseph Fiennes says he's "living the dream" filming Five's FlashForward in Hollywood.
"It is a big change, but I'm kind of living the dream, loving it really, and hoping no-one wakes me up," the British actor explained.
"Hello. Is that my agent? I may have a gap coming up in my schedule."
ABC have reportedly called a time out on FlashForward but maintain they are not pulling the plug, even though ratings are plummeting and the exec producer Marc Guggenheim has jumped ship.
They claim the six day break was built into the schedule to give the writers a chance to rest their creative brains and keep quality standards high.
Every little helps but it is worrying sign that, right from the start, they didn't feel confident that they could sustain the torpor, sorry, tension across an entire series without taking a comfort break.
Perhaps they've already had their own flashforward and seen the future of the series is looking about as healthy as Noh's.
Lost has carved out a reputation for its great use of music.
(Unlike Flash Forward, which is getting it all so, so wrong every week).
Remember that great scene on the castaway camp beach set to Jeff Buckley's haunting Hallelujah, for example?
Clearly, Lost co-producer Damon Lindelof is a man who knows his music.
So could it be significant when he says that the final season of the show is best matched by one special song?
It's Visions Of Johanna by Bob Dylan.
"There are certain lyrical phrases in that song that are very well-suited to season six," he says cryptically.
Make your own mind up. Turn the page for the lyrics ...
Where do I go from here folks?
I fell asleep during Monday's episode. I stayed awake long enough to see Lost's Charlie Pace doing strange fate related things with that blonde woman at the start.
Is it me or does his new haircut accentuate his rather sticky out ears and make him look like a wing nut.

My main problem with Flash Forward is that I can't even remember one character's name.
Surely after 5? episodes I should be able to?
I should care shouldn't I?
I really don't. I think I am about to give up for good on this rather dull tease of a show.
