TWILIGHT hunk Taylor Lautner has been stalked by almost as many Hollywood directors as teenage girls in recent months.

Now the wolfboy of the vampire franchise fame has finally fallen for the charms of action maestro Michael Bay, director of such classics as Transformers and Armageddon.

The dream team are said this week to have linked up for a project that is being touted as Mr & Mrs Smith meets Wanted.

The pair sent out a script on Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning a bidding war had already started.

Not much more is known about the planned film, except that the pair handpicked Jason Hall, who wrote the Ashton Kutcher/Anne Heche comedy Spread, to come up with the script.

At just 19, martial arts expert Lautner already has Hollywood slavering at his feet.

Vanity Fair named him the Sunset Strip's ninth highest-paid actor - thanks in part to a reported $7.5 million deal to star in the 3D Hasbro adpatation Stretch Armstrong.

And all this fame and fortune comes without him actually having headlined a film, unless you count The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.

Up until now, Lautner has surfed the crestwave of the Twilight tsunami, but without the Robert Pattinson factor will he continue to be a teen-throb?

The jury is out until his first post-Pattie offering hits the big screen this September with the release of thriller Abduction.

He is also producing and starring in sci-fi fantasy Incarceron, in which he's likely to get to grips with Harry Potter hottie Emma Watson.

Bay is currently working on Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third in the franchise, while Lautner finishes Twilight: Breaking Dawn pt 2.

Bay co-owns Platinum Dunes, a production house specialising in horror film remakes, and his credits include The Rock, Pearl Harbor and the Bad Boys series.
