Batman Live: Caped Crusader goes on a world tour
Holy arena tour, Batman! The superhero is to come alive in an action-packed arena show.
The five-year, multli-million pound world tour begins in Britain next summer and includes Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
Batman Live will be a spectacular production, featuring stunts, pyrotechnics, illusions, video screen sequences and even high-flying circus acts.
Miniature helicopters will buzz over the audience's heads, while The Joker will try to make his escape in a life-size hot air balloon and the Dark Knight will race around in his Batmobile.
There will be humour and a few scares, although it's designed to be a family show for everyone from the age of six upwards.
The look of the show is being based on the artwork of DC Comics' Jim Lee, while writer Geoff Johns is devising an original storyline based around the origins of Robin.
Other characters include butler Alfred and villains including The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Penguin.
The show will include a circus act, to explain how Robin came to join forces with Batman. Dick Grayson was in a trapeze act with his parents called The Flying Graysons were killed and he became a ward of billionaire Bruce Wayne.
Announcing the show at DC Comics' HQ in Gotham City, aka New York, Geoff Johns told Anorak City: ""That opens up wounds for Batman, as his parents were murdered too.
"Batman is still relevant today because he represents something each of us can relate to - loss. It's a tragic and uplifting story."
Jim Lee confided: ""It's great to be able to give fans something they haven't seen before. I have complete faith that it's going to be an awesome show and I'm honoured they are using my artwork.
"Batman has the right silhouette, with his flowing cape, for a theatrical production and he will kick ass in person!"
Tickets go on sale on Friday November 12 for Batman Live. It plays the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham for eight shows from August 17 to 21. Ring 0844 338 8000 or go to www.batmanlive.com
