Calling all red shirts!
A plea as a national hunt for trekkers begins
The London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film, or SCI-FI-LONDON as they like to be known, invites you to celebrate and salute geeks and the most hardcore of fans.
September 28 looks set to be one of the biggest gatherings of fanboys of the year with a special screening at Apollo Picadilly of Fanboys, a comic cinematic odyssey about four Star Wars obsessives who reunite on a cross country road trip. Their destination - George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch.
Geeks are being encouraged to arrive in their favourite uniforms and costumes, and while Darth Vaders, Stormtroopers, Darth Mauls, Biker Scouts and TIE Pilots have already confirmed attendance, there is a notable absence of Trekkers - even though the film features some irate Enterprise fans in pursuit of our heroes.
The event organisers have now sent out a special plea to prove this fandom is still living long and prospering.
Louis Savy, of SCI-FI-LONDON says: "We knew that this event would be a haven for all fanboys across the country, not least because they have been petitioning for the release of this film for years, but also because we all love to get dressed up and celebrate geek pride.
"But we can't understand what's happened to the local Trekkers this year...have they turned their back on Star Trek and moved on to Star Wars? In any case, we're urging more Trekkers to turn up, so the first 10 who arrive on the door that night will get in for free and be invited to the after-party.
"Very special guests and a special photo area to capture the exhibitionists within the group are just some of the highlights of the evening. The night will also include SFX's unveiling of the UK's biggest fanboy, so Trekkers here's your chance to get involved."
Fanboys will be release on DVD on October 4.
