The IMDB Project - The launch

Hi guys, welcome to the new venture within the Anorak City blog...'The IMDB project'.

So what's it all about? Well I realised in conversations with film buffs over the last few years that I had missed out on watching some of (what the mass film watching audience) would call the best films ever. Yes I've never seen The Godfather, One flew over the cuckoos nest, any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and...to my Brother-in-law's amazement....any Indiana Jones film!! I can hear you all gasping as you read this.

So what I have decided to do is watch all these classics over the coming year. Anorak City has given me the chance to do this, but how was I going to judge what films to watch, word of mouth? award wins? award nominations? No, I have watched some great award winning films and some of the critically acclaimed ones too, I needed a measure of the masses. So I started to search around...top 10 this, top 30 that, there is a lot of lists out there but one rises above all....The IMDB top 250 films of all time!

The Internet Movie Database or IMDB is the biggest, best, most award-winning movie site on the planet and as some of you may know the IMDB top 250 is constantly changing so I have taken a grab of the list as at today, this is the list I will use for the project. I have begged, bought, borrowed, stolen (will return) and even already own some dvds in the list and have managed to get all of them ready to watch.

I will start at #250 Rain Man, 1988 and work my way up the list reviewing as I go. Feel free to comment on any of my reviews with your thoughts on why/if the films are deserved to be in the list. You can also follow me on twitter here @theimdbproject or of course the whole blog here @anorak_city

I'll be chipping in with Steve, Paul, Dan and the rest on all things Anorak too so I'll hopefully bring a little nostalgia to all you film lovers out there. Please tell me if I go on too much about Back to the Future though!

I don't profess to know it all but I do have an opinion and if you agree or disagree it would be great to hear from you! Tune in soon for the first review!
