Dr Who : Sherlock Holmes set for guest starring role?

It is the ultimate meeting of the minds.

Dr Who and Sherlock Holmes.

Steven Moffat is the man behind both Matt Smith's Time Lord and Benedict Cumberbatch's 21st century sleuth.

He's writing and producing both shows, and both are part of the BBC Wales stable.

And our first look at Sherwood last weekend revealed the Great Detective taking cues out of the Matt Smith style guide.

All that manic energy. That gleeful enthusiasm. The twinkle in the eye.

So what more natural than a crossover episode, in which Sherlock teams up with the Doctor to solve a particularly puzzling crime?

Cumberbatch, a fan of Doctor Who, says that he would be interested in appearing as a main or recurring character on the show.

And back in 2008 he turned down the chance to take over from David Tennant as the Eleventh Doctor, paving the way for Matt Smith's marvellous turn.

Doctor Who executive producer Moffat, has already revealed that he will write five episodes for the next series of the show scheduled for broadcast in 2011.

There'll be 13 episodes, and here at Anorak City our money is on a Sherlock sensation.

The 48 year old writer also admitted that between Doctor Who and his new show Sherlock, he hasn't been enjoying much of a work-life balance.

"The last year has been extraordinary," he said. "I've had about four days off, and that includes Christmas day. I work every weekend, I get up early in the morning, I go to bed late at night. There is no way of balancing it.

"It's extraordinary, but it's great fun too! Great fun, so long as it doesn't kill me!"

Sorry to hear this old chestnut walking. No - Ben did not get the offer for Dr Who first - not according to the Series Runner - so put away this nonesence.

I really love watching Sherlock Holmes. If he will be paired with Dr. Who, then that would be a great tandem. It will be a big hit in the box office. - Randall Alifano
