Who's daring wins in Sci-Fi awards

By Alison Jones on Jan 15, 10 11:25 AM

While Ginger-gate still rages on in the Doctor Who community, David Tennant's tenure as (not quite) the last of the time lords has been recognised by sci-fi watchers. They have voted him best actor in the inaugural Total Sci-Fi Awards 2009.

Despite helping to reboot the Star Trek franchise, Chris Pine could only manage runner up for his energetic performance as the young Captain Kirk.

Star Trek was voted best Sci-Fi film with District 9 coming a close second. The two movies switched places when it came to the best director prize with Neill Blomkamp pipping JJ Abrams.
In a decision that could rock James Cameron's boat, Avatar came second in the award for best effects with Star Trek taking the crown.
Oddly, in spite of the obvious affection the voters have for the good Doctor, his vehicle, and by that I mean the series rather than the Tardis, didn't win best TV show. That honour went to Supernatural, which is succeeding in the UK in spite of the apathetic attitude of ITV (1 & 2) who let it slip through its fingers and into the black hole of late night viewing until Living finally recognised its worth.

Supernatural bros Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki's efforts get the recognition they deserve

Torchwood, which seems to have plotted itself out of existence by killing off practically all the main characters, with the exception of the indestructible Captain Scarlet, sorry, Jack and preggers Gwen, got the runner up nod
Other winners included The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Drag Me to Hell and Batman and Robin (for best comic)
