British movie location finder : free app for iPhone and iPod Touch
VisitBritain,ÃÂ the national tourism agency, and etv today announced a free British Film Location App for iPhone and iPod touch is now available from the App Store.
The app allows iPhone and iPod touch users to discover and photograph the most iconic British film locations in cinematic history.
It also shows theÃÂ mostÃÂ famous film scenes on Google maps andÃÂ allows users to search by film title.
Users canÃÂ plan an entireÃÂ BritishÃÂ film tour from the app, whether they're looking for Harry Potter's Hogwarts or one of the Braveheart battlefields.
Each film location is accompanied by a detailed synopsis and description of how to find it.
VisitBritain has harnessed the power of films to enthuse visitors from around the world to explore Britain for many years. The agency's research indicates that 40% of potential visitors would be very likely to visit places they have seen in films or on TV.
"The VisitBritain message is clear," says Juston Reid of VisitBritain. "wherever you are in Britain you are never far from a British film location.
"This app will give visitors the opportunity to recreate their favourite scenes from some of our most iconic British films.
"Users can take pictures on location or make their own short films, posting them on Facebook, Twitter or any of their social networking pages.
"2010 is going to be a massive year for film tourism to Britain and we are making sure our digital campaigning is at the forefront of these events."
Andy Rogers, MD of etv online, says: "This Great British Film Location iPhone App is the perfect addition to VisitBritain's digital campaign to celebrate the Sherlock Holmes movie.
"Apps for iPhone and iPod touch are becoming an integral part of our online business as they are cost effective to develop, with potential to attract thousands of users."

The launch is part of VisitBritain's digital campaign around the forthcoming Sherlock Homes movie supported by a dedicated microsite.
The Sherlock Holmes movie, starring Robert Downey Jr and directed by Guy Ritchie premiered in London on December 14, 2009.
