By unklerupert on Oct 26, 09 02:07 PM

Hurrah for the return of intelligent Sci-Fi as Duncan Jones first feature 'Moon' receives 7 nominations today in the 12th British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) (reported by Screen Daily)

Released in July 'Moon' tells the story of Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), Employee of Lunar Industries based on the Moon coming to the end of a 3 year shift mining Helium 3 to provide clean power for the good people of earth. Things are not quite as they initially appear however, and Sam discovers things that lead him to question his perception of reality, and his very existence.

'Moon' has been very well received this year, having already picked up prestigious Awards at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and more recently dominating at Sitges Film Fest in Spain.

A great British Sci-Fi success, how long is it since we have been able to say that?
