Robert Carlyle has revealed that Danny Boyle is "edging" closer to making Porno, the sequel to his hit movie Trainspotting.

Carlyle, who played the terrifying Begbie in the 1996 film, told the BBC he would "jump through hoops of fire backwards" for Boyle, and would be happy to star in Porno for free.

The Scottish actor said he thought there was plenty of mileage in Begbie's character and he would be happy to revisit the role: "I think there is lots more entertainment to be had from that group of people so I would be up for it, and I know Danny seems to be edging more towards it."

Trainspotting, adapted from Irvine Welsh's dark novel about the Edinburgh heroin scene in the 1980s, won the best film Bafta and made stars of Boyle, Carlyle and Ewan McGregor, who played the main character, Mark Renton.

In the follow-up novel Porno, Welsh picks up the same group of characters 10 years later.
