Comic fans are in for a treat next month when Dave Gibbons, artist of the legendary WATCHMEN graphic novels, visits IMAX Cinema, Birmingham on Friday September 18 for an exclusive screening event of WATCHMEN: The IMAX Experience (18).

At this one-off special event supported by the British International Comic Show, visitors will hear Dave Gibbons introduce the film, and be invited to take part in a question and answer session.

This is a rare opportunity for fans to discover everything they've ever wanted to know about the comics and the making of the movie. Following that, visitors will see the film explode to life on the giant IMAX screen.

The WATCHMEN comics were originally published in 1986 as a twelve-part series before being collected into a graphic novel.

After gaining critical acclaim both by comic fans and the media, the series was eventually turned into a motion picture and released in March 2009 with Zack Snyder as its director.

The movie was hugely popular at the box office grossing $180 million worldwide, and the IMAX Experience will allow the audience to enjoy the movie through the crystal clear images on a screen as tall as a five-storey building.

Dave Gibbons comment: "I'm really pleased to return to IMAX Cinema in Birmingham, where I first saw the trailer for WATCHMEN last year, and it will be great to meet the fans.

"IMAX really is the best way to experience the film adaptation of the WATCHMEN comics and I'm sure it's going to be a great night."

Millennium Point is hosting the British International Comic Show for the third time this year, which takes place on October 3 to 4 2009.

The sci-fi blockbusters Watchmen, Transformers 2 and Star Trek will all be screening at IMAX Cinema throughout the two-day event.

Tickets for the special Dave Gibbons screening event go on sale Friday August 14, 2009.

They cost £18.50 per person and all visitors will receive a WATCHMEN goodie bag. Dave will also be available to sign books on the evening.

For times and to book tickets visit www.imax.ac or call 0121 202 2222.
