Duncan Jones has revealed that he paid tribute to the great science-fiction directors in his film Moon - by naming the plants after them.

The director, whose debut feature film stars Sam Rockwell as a lonely astronaut, said he wanted to acknowledge directors such as Ridley Scott and Kathryn Bigelow, and decided to name the plants in the moon base after them.

Duncan said: "In Sam's garden all the little plants are named after science-fiction directors.

So there's a Ridley and a Kathryn and a George and a Douglas - the names are written on the boxes, so if you freeze-framed the film you could probably see them."
