District 9 trailer: best sci-fi movie of the year?

The sci-fi movie of the year opens on August 14 in the UK and is the thinking fan's science fiction essential viewing.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, and with Peter Jackson (yes, that Peter Jackson) as producer, sneak peeks suggest it's a winner.

Aliens land on earth - but not to wipe us out.

Instead, they're stranded in South Africa where they're herded into slum-like ghettos with echoes of apartheid.

They're mercilessly interrogated about their technology and treated, literally, as subhuman slaves.

But then they find an ally in the shape of a sympathetic government agent.
