Dinosaurus!
As I was looking around for footage of the classic 1920s' movie of The Lost World for the Weird Science blog (check it out), I stumbled across a trailer for the magnificent-sounding Dinosaurus! from 1960.
Now it's easy to be unkind to special effects from yesteryear (I'm sure our grandchildren will have a hearty laugh at some of the god-awful CGI of today) but what struck me was how little progress had been made in those 40 years.
If anything, The Lost World looked better.
This might be due to the fact effects whiz Marcel Delgado was given less than half the time originally agreed upon to create the dinosaur models used in the film.
The studio initially agreed to give him five to six weeks, as he requested, but two weeks later he was told they would begin production on Tuesday!
But Dinosaurus! is an inspired title at the very least and I'm sure many more of us would remember the film if the makers hadn't turned down Steve McQueen as the leading man.
