June 2008 Archives

Bemused by all the flashbacks and flash forwards in Lost?

Well, a Lost buff has put the events surrounding the crash together in sensible sequence.

By the time you've watched this through, you'll be able to put the crash in context.

Nice idea, and doubtless hours of fun on the Sky+ box.

So, have you got the job?

If you replied to the TV ad placed by Octagon Global Recruiting in the commercial break during the Lost season 4 finale, you should already have had an e-mail back.

And you'll have realised that the posts are with ... the Dharma Initiative.

Yes, the same shadowy organisation who set up home - and all manner of secret bases - on the Lost island where Oceanic Flight 815 crashed.

The ad stated that Octogon Global Recruiting would hold a recruiting session in San Diego from July 24-27, 2008 - significantly the same date and location as Comicon 2008.

Applicants received an email reply from Octagon, with a carbon copy to someone by the name of "Hans Van Eeghen", under the subject heading Recruitment Information.

The email notified registrants that Octagon's recruitment drive would be launched at Comicon with an "exciting aptitude test", and that the full recruitment program would also be available online after this time.

Head for www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com for more.

But, just a thought, if you watched the ad carefully, you'll have seen a secretary typing in some very familiar numbers.

You have been warned ...

They say a picture's worth a thousand words.

They're right.

Movie special effects wizards recreated the D-Day landings for the opening of the new Wolverine movie, which reveals the origins of the X-Men adamantium action man.

In the most spectacular wartime shoot since Saving Private Ryan, around 100 extras and reservists stormed the beaches near Newcastle, north of Sydney, Australia.

Many were deafened by the blasts and bruised as they fell 'dead' on what will pass for Omaha Beach when the film is finally edited for box office blockbuster release.

Among the troops was Logan (actor Hugh Jackman) and Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) who stormed a German machine gun nest.

Logan, of course, becomes Wolverine while Creed becomes his arch-enemy Sabretooth.

X Men Origins : Wolverine is due to claw its way into cinemas in May 2009.

It's the biggest face-off since the big battle between the mighty Marvel and dazzling DC superheroes.

Scorpion and the Mortal Kombat crew and taking on Batman and his Justice League pals.

It's seconds out, round one this Autumn as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe comes to an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3 near you.

Among the many battles are Batman vs Sub Zero and Scorpion vs The Flash.

"Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide, and unlikely alliances to be forged," says games maker Midway. "In order to save all they know, the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat must wage war against the combined might of the DC Universe."

Who'll be the winner? It's up to you, playing either in story mode or just slugging it out for fun.

Whatever the result, it could be a killer. Mortal Kombat, remember, relied not on submission but fatality.

We've seen superheroes and villains team up to save the universe before.

But now it's the turn of the robots.

Word is that the Transformers and Decepticons join forces in the upcoming movie sequel,

Optimus Prime must make peace with Megatron to take on an even greater threat.

The Fallen.

He's a super-powered metal monster who was one of the original Transformers but fell from grace and is now hell-bent on revenge.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is due for release in June 2009.

Dark Knight is almost upon us, and the Batman faces his arch-enemy.

The late Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker is a scene-stealer at every turn, and there's special tribute paid to him in the credits.

In the meantime, Ha Ha Ha Times has been offering sneaky clues.

HA HA TIMES.jpg

Letters are circled throughout the spoof edition of the Gotham Times newspaper at www.hahahatimes.com

You'll find they read: Herrings are red, corpses are blue, you're on the right track but you don't have a clue.

It's one of The Joker's riddles, and holds the key to a Gotham City mystery.

Here's the trailer to whet your appetite.

Just what's going on in Lost

By Paul Cole on Jun 27, 08 12:29 PM

It's the question we're all asking.

And so are they.

Here's the proof ...

We're all going Dr Who crazy with the big series finale featuring just about everyone.

It's Dr Who and all his friends back together for the main event, battling Davros and the Daleks.

Hmm. Friends, eh?

Here's what our favourite Time Lord might appear in a different setting.

He'll be there for you ...

Doctor Who's lovelorn companion Rose Tyler faces fresh heartbreak after her much-hyped return to the series.

We can reveal that Rose, played by Billie Piper, will die.

But not at the hand of the Daleks who are ready to invade Planet Earth again.

She'll simply grow old and die, without ever finding true love with her Time Lord.

Writer Steven Moffat, the new Dr Who chief in waiting, boasts that he has never killed a character in the episodes he has written.

But he admits that he has let Rose die of old age.

"I don't think that counts," he says.

"I think I'll have to be a lot more bloodthirsty when I take the chair."

And it was looking so good, too ...
